Major monasteries of Sikkim

PHODONG MONASTERY
This monastery is 28 kms away from Gangtok in North Sikkim. This old monastery has been rebuilt and is now one of the most beautiful monasteries in Sikkim. The monastery is famous for possessing the old mural paintings. There are around 260 monks. The main annual event of the monastery is celebrated the 28th and 29th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan Calender during which the religious dances are performed.
ENCHEY MONASTERY
The Enchey Monastery built 200 years back on the site blessed by Lama Druptob Karpo, a Tantric master known for his power of flying. This is an important seat of the Nyingma order having images of Gods, Goddesses and other religious objects in its premises. Every year around January "Chaam" or religious masked dance is performed in this monastery also. Lama Drupthob Karpa  had built this as a small hermitage which, later during the reign of Sikyong Tulku (1909-1910), was built in the shape of a Chinese Pagoda.
PHENSANG MONASTERY
This famous monastery of North Sikkim was built in 1721 during the time of Jigme Pawo but was completely gutted by a devastating fire in 1947. However it was rebuilt in 1948 and at present there are around 300 monks under the monastery. The annual function in the monastery is on the 28th & 29th days of the tenth month of the Tibetan Calender which normally corresponds to the month of December.get Holidays to Sikkim in lowest price.
